Anti-Wrinkle
Acne is one of the most common skin complaints in the world and usually affects us all at some point in our lives, albeit at varying degrees. It occurs when the sebaceous glands in our skin follicles become congested and blocked with dead skin cells, excess oil (sebum) and bacteria. Acne frequently affects the glands in your face, neck and back, where the build-up of bacteria triggers a breakout of whiteheads and blackheads.
There are different types of facial acne. Your acne may typically range from simple red raised bumps which feel tender or sore (papules), which may also have a white tip at the centre due to the build-up if pus (pustules).
The more severe form of acne includes cystic acne, this commonly presents as large, tender pus-filled lumps (nodules) which carry the greatest risk of causing scarring. The subsequent scarring is caused by inflammation in the underlying dermis. The inflamed and infected cyst is not only painful, but can also be unsightly, resulting in high levels of emotional and physical stress.
Whether you suffer from the occasional breakout to more severe cystic acne, we have personalised treatment plans available to meet all your skincare needs. You will undergo a full doctor-led consultation and skin analysis prior to starting a suitable treatment plan.
Retinoid creams are effective at reducing the underlying inflammation and congestion of the hair follicles caused by the build p of bacteria, dead skin cells and oil. Retinol is a form of vitamin A which can be purchased over the counter for mild symptoms. For moderate to severe cystic acne with evidence of scarring, a stronger retinol will need to be prescribed afterconsultation from a specialist doctor.
Cystic acne is usually inflamed and oral antibiotic therapy can be effective in controlling the redness and underlying inflammation which can help other topical agents work more effectively.
Medical grade skin peels can be very effective in reducing skin inflammation and oil production. Skill peels help to exfoliate skin and remove dead skin cells and excess oil from skin to help unplug hair follicles. Chemical peels help repair damaged skin by increasing collagen regeneration which is effective in treating any underlying scarring caused by cystic acne. This process also helps to rebuild a smother and clearer top layer of your skin.
Microneedling involves pricking the surface of the skin tiny sterilised needles which help stimulate skin regeneration through collagen synthesis. This process results in smoother skin, reduction in scar tissue and reduced inflammation.
Targeted laser treatment can be very effective in treating cystic acne and underlying scarring by stimulating new skin cell formation by inducing collagen stimulation and reducing oil formation. This technique helps in the natural healing of the skin and be used very effectively alongside other treatments.
